Louis Vuitton F/W 12.13 Paris via Vogue.

“It was a fashion’s own Platform Nine and Three-Quarters and all the magic promised beyond it seemed to radiate from the girls as they showed off stiff coats with jewelled buttons, A-line dresses layered over cropped tailored trousers with swing jackets to match – all in patchworks of matt and patent leather held together by metal rivets.

Lamé fused onto cashmere dresses in red or mustard, and swirling prints of metallic blue on brown or cream on shiny lilac, came with glittering knit twin sets and then encrusted with embellishments of every colour – each one worthy of its own jewellery box (conveniently being carried behind by a white gloved lackey).

Sumptuous velvets, ostrich leather, bold silk weaves and elaborate appliqué satins in tan, nude, black, navy, pink and brown made for ladylike, somewhat snooty Mary Poppins characters who had boarded the train to a land of opportunity, their subtle net veils and brief backward servant-checking glances adding to the elaborate showmanship. Rich in detail and colour palette as it was in imagination and conception, this show was a celebration of fashion in every sense – take it apart piece by piece, bag by incredible bag, coat by precisely constructed coat and it was all about fantastic clothes and accessories, too.”
